The University Governing Council comprises of eminent Ugandan National and foreign Nationals with interest in the development of the University. The University Governing Council membership is also drawn from National and International sector leadership to bring the broad range of backgrounds, expertise and perspectives necessary to make strategic decisions.

FUNCTIONS OF THE COUNCIL

a)     The functions of Council shall be, either on its own initiative or on request by the Senate, and in all cases on behalf of the Subscribers to:-

  1. Issue  general policy directions and inspiration in the government of the University;
  2. Issue policy directions regarding the finances of the University;
  3. Cause any action to be taken on any matter within the Charter and in accordance with the Statutes;
  4. Establish Faculties, Institutes, Colleges, Schools, Centres, Departments, Boards and Programmes of study and research.

b)    To ratify, on recommendation of the Senate and after election by their colleagues, the appointment of Deans, Directors, Heads of Department;       

  1. To confirm appointment of professors, Senior Lecturers and Lecturers on recommendation of the appointments’ committee.
  2. To approve such borrowing arrangement by the University as Statutes shall prescribe;
  3. To approve investment proposals by the University;
  4. To ensure that the University remains to its objectives and policy as expressed in the charter.
  5. In addition to these functions, Council shall also act in an advisory capacity to the officers of the University.

Location

Nile University is located in Arua District in the North West of Uganda 5km from Arua on the Arua – Moyo road on a 32.1 acre piece of land.

The University is open to both male and female students.
